"Native American Cancer Research and Mayo Clinic's Spirit of Eagles Community Network Programs requests your help for one of our colleagues, Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC). LBBC is trying to include different groups in their survey about metastatic breast cancer (i.e., "metastatic" = cancer that is in the breast but also in other body organs or systems). Because so many of our Native women and men are diagnosed in later stages of breast cancer in comparison to other groups of people, some of you have unique information that can help LBBC and subsequently legislators and others to support more breast health programs in medically under-served communities like ours. We ask that you take a few minutes to help LBBC and we will all share the benefits of the knowledge they learn in helping our communities living with this disease. Thank you for considering this request, Linda B (aka: Burhansstipanov), Grants Director, Native American Cancer Research"
I wanted to find out if you could help get the word out about LBBC's second advanced (metastatic) breast cancer survey. Our deadline for return of surveys is coming very soon, June 30, 2008 so I am reaching out to various organizations to request assistance in spreading the word about the paper survey.
You may recall that in 2005 LBBC developed a survey for women with ABC that was completed mostly online. Some women completed this on paper but the sample size was not large enough to draw conclusions. One recommendation was for LBBC to conduct the same survey again in a non-Internet user population to see what differences and similarities may exist between the two groups so that programs and services can be developed for all women based upon their preferences for information and support.
With your help we can ensure that as many women with metastatic breast cancer can have their voices heard and assist us with the development of appropriate programs, services and materials.
The survey can be obtained in larger quantities to be handed out at support groups and cancer centers upon request. All completed surveys must be postmarked on or before June 30, 2008.
Do you think you can assist us in reaching women who may be living with metastatic breast cancer? Can you send an email to people connected to Native American Cancer Research organization or other listservs you may participate in? Or do you have other ideas for getting the word out? With your support, we look forward to reaching many women of diverse backgrounds and experiences to make Phase II of this project as successful as our first phase.
Thank you for your support of our work!
